Karma

In today's world, with the changing lifestyle and the changing mindset of the younger generation a big/wide topic such as Karma will not be taken deeply or considered as knowledge but instead, what is shown on TV will be believed. A little bit of reading, discussion with scholars will help in developing  knowledge and some weightage can be given to their thoughts.

According to Bhagavadgeetha, Karma is explained well in the third chapter.
The fifth verse says:
न हि कश्चित्क्षणमपि जातु तिष्ठत्यकर्मकृत् |
कार्यते ह्यवश: कर्म सर्व: प्रकृतिजैर्गुणै: || 5||
Translation: A person can never achieve freedom from reactions to activities without first performing prescribed vedic duties; neither can perfection be attained by renouncing them as well.

 Nineteenth verse says:
तस्मादसक्त: सततं कार्यं कर्म समाचर |
असक्तो ह्याचरन्कर्म परमाप्नोति पूरुष: || 19||
Translation: Therefore, without attachment, without interruption, perfectly perform prescribed actions; since by performing prescribed actions a person achieves the highest good.

hapter2,Forty seventh verse says:
कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन |
मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भूर्मा ते सङ्गोऽस्त्वकर्मणि || 47 ||
Translation:Those human beings who always execute regularly these injunctions of Mine with full faith, without envy; all of them become free from the bondage of reactions from actions.

By all these verses, it can be understood that without troubling others and by performing the duties that the nature has prescribed to us, we will be following our karma. Karma is often used as escapism when we cannot give reasons for why or what has happened to us which is not beneficial. This practice of blaming karma (or calling it as a dog/ b****) should go away from the minds of people. Karma is nothing but doing our duties. Scholars should encourage and enlighten those who are interested to know more about all these things.

  1. I don't think we can be free from the "bondage of reactions from actions". We reap what we sow, and that's karma.

    1. Dear Destination Infinity, it is said so in Bhagavadgeetha, :) It's not my personal opinion, I have quoted the Bhagavadgeetha verses in my blog post.
      Karmanye Vadhikaraste, Ma phaleshou kada chana,

      Ma Karma Phala Hetur Bhurmatey Sangostva Akarmani
      Good or bad, don't expect anything out of your karma i.e, duties. Perform your duties assigned to you by nature and heavenly instructions. Leave everything to Him. That is what Bhagavadgeetha says. God will give you back what you deserve after performing your duties. It is in His hands not in ours.All that we can do is follow our karma. -Jahnavi

A family where women were considered men if they had given birth to a male child. She received the portent and tried to impress them but, the only way to impress them was to starve and become lame. "I was not born for this" she thought. She was isolated for the rest of her life for she was a woman. Jahnavi.K.J written for Lillie McFerrin's five sentence fiction .

Zodiac signs

Zodiac signs' dictionary meaning is: "an imaginary area of the sky containing the positions of the sun, the moon and the main planets, divided into 12 equal parts, named after 12 groups of stars. It is interesting to see how these stars effect the life of each individual living on Earth. This study of stars is an ancient science which rises curiosity in everyone. The study depends on the date of birth of the individual in the western countries and on the birth star in the Hindu astrology. The zodiac signs plays a vital role in match making and other aspects in Indian arranged marriage. Some people have strong beliefs in the forecast of these zodiac signs. However I do not believe in the predictions of the zodiac signs :) Jahnavi Participating in A to Z challenge
