A Support

Today I completed reading excerpts of autobiographies of a few great women reformers of our country from the book The Female Footprints by Ranjana Harish. It's an excellent book.
I observed and realised one common point in all their life stories of success...a "support" and definitely "endurance". Without a support from their respective family or friend none of these people could have achieved their dreams to bring a change in our society. Not only is this applicable to the women whom I read about but in general, to all human kind. Yes, any genius can achieve anything if and only if he/she has a strong support, may it be from an entire group of family and friends or just one single person.
Ramabai Ranade achieved her goal of being educated by her husband's extensive support amidst a strong disapproval of each and every member of their family. She became a women's right activist , a social worker by transgressing the feminine subculture with tremendous support from her husband and a close acquaintance with Pandita Ramabai.
The same way, women achievers who brought a social change in our country such as Amrita Pritam, Parvathibai Athavale, Nawab sultan jahan begum and so many more have all had atleast one strong support in their life to bring in such a huge change.
Is support a form of power? yes. A support works in a very miraculous way.Support is not just financial support.Moral support is the main power source for anybody to go for anything they want. I sometimes feel if this support was available for Ramanujam( instead of haranguing him), what all could he have not achieved? He was such a genius, so people around him made sure that he didn't get paper supply, they made sure he couldn't afford paper! in fact wasn't he genius enough to do math on floor and make believe to the ladies at home that it was kolam and do his work?
What I'm trying to say is, in general, every family/ friend group has a punching bag (a target) to punch. The punching bag takes it and doesn't return it(which indicates the goodness of a person). If you are not the punching bag, then...you are lucky :) but if you are the punching bag then you definitely need a support to live this beautiful gift of god "LIFE".

Vintage letters

Vintage letters are treasures for me. The art of writing letters was in practise since 300 A.D. After 16th century writing letters became an art. Letters were not just used for communication but it became an art also. The design of the letter took a uniform design when the British came to India and started ruling over. Even to this day in some villages of India, the post man or the teachers of the school should open the letter and read it. Today, some vintage letters are preserved in the families, in the Government offices, Parliaments and the collectors who fancy collecting vintage letters. I have preserved letters from Great grandfather and my GrandFather.  I feel that these vintage letters are some sort of treasure that I have. Funniest part is, it takes a long time to come to the matter itself because the starting two- three sentences is to be polite enquiries and whereabouts of each other and ending the letter used to be with elegant words. I will post some pictures of the ...
